In Thy Presence Is Fulness Of Joy

Psalms  16:1 Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust.   16:2 O my soul, thou hast said unto the LORD, Thou art my Lord: my goodness extendeth not to thee;
16:3 But to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight.
16:4 Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips.
16:5 The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.
16:6 The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.
16:7 I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.
16:8 I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.  16:9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.
16:10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Glorify Thy Lord

Matthew  15:25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.  15:26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.  15:27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.  15:28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.  15:29 And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there.  15:30 And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them:  15:31 Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.

Youth Of Nowadays

A Generation of Young Christians
1. We are always right and we never accept correction..A corrector is seen as an enemy
2. We love to sing in church, but do not read our bibles at home
3. We are full of lust, sensuality and emotions and we call it love
4. we want to have wonderful marriages, but by the time we are 25years we've spent almost ten years in relationships already. Sometimes we may have had more boy lovers and girl lovers than even our parents.
5. Sexual activities are now part of our relationships calling it romance
6. we want to be rich in life, meanwhile we spent all our finances on the latest ipads,
iphone, galaxies, htcs, laptops, cameras etc
which in many cases we use less than 30% of their functions
7. We do not pay our tithes and offerings claiming we are students
8. We say we are christian women but dress like hollywood stars and we call it fashion
9. We love pleasures rather than God
10. In church you will see us with our hands lifted up singing slow songs which we call worship but on our phones in our pockets, you
will see pics of naked and half naked women, hip hop, hip life and we have a nice way of justifying it.
11. We are hardly convicted when we go to church because our hearts have been hardened by the deceitfulness of sin and pride...etc etc
But God forsaw this and warned us in 2Tim.
3...That in the last days
men and women will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers,
disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self- control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather
than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power.
We need to change our ways, we have no excuse on judgement day, Repent. U can forward if u want to. But I know u might not  because it is not funny.
But sit down check yourself and have a talk with Jesus who can forgive and forget your sin.

Odunlade Adekola Leads Praises In Church To Celebrate Easter

Its was fun today in church when the pastor announces that Odunlade Adekola would lead praise for easter thanksgiving. At first I don’t want to cover the event but I thought it would be nice sharing it.

Satanic M*rder: My Experience At The Church Of Satan – Criminologist Confesses

churchofsatan NL1 500x360 Satanic M*rder: My Experience At The Church Of Satan – Criminologist Confesses
Forensic criminologist and security co-ordinator at the American University of Nigeria, Yola, Dr. Lionel Von Frederck Rawlins explains his experience at the church of satan, while on the book he wrote on the subject.
He said the book was the thesis for his master’s degree in criminology. “I was fascinated by cultism and Satanism, witchcraft, voodoo, juju and how they used to kill people,” Rawlins said, explaining further; “They never called it satanic m****r. The Press would call it satanic m****r but the court of law would not because there is no such thing in law.
The court does not have any law that says it is a satanic, cult or juju m****r. “I was fascinated by how these people would commit m****r and keep it secret and no one knows and they get away with it. So in doing that, I had to go interview witches in the US, it’s a legitimate religion so they don’t mind telling people they are witches protected by the constitution. They go to the church of Satan and they are proud of it. I had to go the Church of Satan. Asked what they do at the church of Satan, Rawlins replied;
“They didn’t do anything weird in front of me. “To get in there, I had to apply and they interviewed me. You can’t just walk in because they don’t know who you are or what you want. “After a couple of months of trying to get in, they finally let me. They worship like everyone else but instead of singing praises to God, they sing praises to Satan and the cross is turned upside down.
“The singing was dark and evil but I wanted to interview many of them to see what actually they were about. “The fact is, there are satanists, witches, juju, voodoo etc. They are all there. Many of them are fraudsters though.
They defraud people out of their money but I would not tell people to be afraid to go out and do things because you are not going to find a bunch of people all around the world trying to kill you because Satan told them to,” he said

Spiritual War:- Ghanaian Juju Priest Tackles Prophet T.B Joshua

google+Priest Nana Kwaku Bonsam Vs Prophet T B Joshua 500x281 Spiritual War: Ghanaian Juju Priest Tackles Prophet T.B Joshua
A very powerful juju priest in Ghana, Priest Nana Kwaku Bonsam, is not taking it easy with Nigerian man of God, Prophet T.B. Joshua, and has plans to run the popular seer out of his country as well as report him to Pope Francis of the Roman Catholic Church.
From what we gather, Priest Nana Kwaku Bonsam is not happy that Prophet Joshua has become one of the most powerful men that controls activities in Ghana and that even the Ghanaian president has so much faith in the Nigerian prophet.
The juju man says he will personally go to Rome to report to the Pope to call Joshua to order or else he and other members of the juju clan in his country will make things very difficult for Joshua.
Priest Bonsam is of the view that Prophet Joshua is “acting like Christ” and that his prophecies are misleading, as he is not a true man of God and uses “tricks”, having his editors fabricating things and posting it to the Internet and demonstrating on his TV station. Bonsam even indicated that it was Prophet T. B. Joshua that killed the former President of Ghana, Professor John Evans Atta Mills.

REVEALED: Why Pastor Kumuyi ‘Broke Down’ During Easter Retreat

More revelations have emerged over the recent failing health of the General superintendent of Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Folorunsho Kumuyi during the just concluded national Easter Retreat of the church.
It was reported on Sunday that the former university don broke down during the retreat and was forced to rest on Saturday after losing his voice the previous day.
Explaining why the preacher broke down, the church secretary, Pastor Jerry Asemota, while addressing the congregation at the weekend, said the sudden health failure of the pastor was connected to his recent marathon engagements across the continent.
kumuyi 360x225 REVEALED: Why Pastor Kumuyi ‘Broke Down’ During Easter Retreat
* Pastor Kumuyi was said to be too tired to preach at the just ended retreat.
Asemota said: “With much pleading, we had to convince our pastor to rest. You could recall that lately, he was engaged in series of rival meetings across the continent. Only recently, he was in Abuja, Taraba, Bayelsa, Imo, Edo, Akure and Ibadan. He was also in Ghana, Namabia and Togo and other West African countries.
“He’s human and needs to rest, so we enjoined you all to pray for God’s strength upon his life and bear with us at this time. He is not going on holiday but he needs serious rest. I am very sure that before the programmes end, your Pastor will bounce back to complete what he had started.”
It was gathered that Kumuyi, who eventually bounced back during the last day of the retreat, did not make any reference to his health condition during his ministrations.
However, he was seen very agile and vibrant during the last day of the power-packed programme.
The soft-spoken preacher in his last sermon entitled “Reigning Through the Victory of Jesus” said, once you have the vision with Jesus Christ, you can achieve anything.

Worship him simply because his alive

Matthew  28:9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.
28:10 Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.   28:11 Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that were done.
28:12 And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers,  28:13 Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept.
28:14 And if this come to the governor's ears, we will persuade him, and secure you.
28:15 So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.  28:16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
28:17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

He Rose Has He Speaks.

Matthew  28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.  28:2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.  28:3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:  28:4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.  28:5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.  28:6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.  28:7 And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.  28:8 And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.

His Alive, Praise His Might Name

Psalms  66:1 Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands:
66:2 Sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious.
66:3 Say unto God, How terrible
art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.
66:4 All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Selah.
66:5 Come and see the works of God: he is terrible in his doing toward the children of men.
66:6 He turned the sea into dry land: they went through the flood on foot: there did we rejoice in him.
66:7 He ruleth by his power for ever; his eyes behold the nations: let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah.
66:8 O bless our God, ye people, and make the voice of his praise to be heard:
66:9 Which holdeth our soul in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved.
66:10 For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.

See A Graduate That Sells Akara For A Living

AKARA AYO
Arouse the average unemployed graduate
from sleep and ask for his dream place of
work. In a flash, he would tell you a bank, or
the oil sector, or a federal institution or a
telecommunication company. He would
never tell you he prays to work in the
unregulated and scorned informal sector.
Who could blame him?
All the years he sacrificed to get an
education was to get a ‘befitting’ job. So
when you find a graduate who obtained a
bank job but voluntarily turns in his
resignation to embrace a blue-collar job, you
want to know what went wrong. When you
find that the job he willingly embraced is
frying and selling akara (bean-cakes), you
want to know what really really went wrong!

Let Me Tell You Something

John  1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
1:5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
1:6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
1:7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
1:8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
1:9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
I LOVE YOU JESUS CHRIST.....
can you say your?......

10-month-old baby reunites with ‘missing’ mother in hospital

A 10-month-old baby simply identified as
Goodness, who was rescued from the scene of the
Monday bomb blast in Nyanya near Abuja, has
been reunited with her mother in hospital.
Goodness was separated from her mother, Gloria
Adams, who was presumed dead in the explosion.
Before she was taken from the Asokoro Hospital to
the Wuse General Hospital where her mother is
receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit,
Goodness spent Tuesday morning sleeping.
Medical workers and her aunt, Maria Dominic,
looked after the little baby who had only a slight
swelling close to one of her eyes.
Her mother suffered severe injuries and is one of
the two left in the Wuse General Hospital’s ICU
after one other victim died.
Gloria, according to a hospital source said she
was carrying Goodness on her back when the
blast occurred.
The hospital source quoted her as saying, “I
cannot remember how I got here. I only saw
myself on the ground, turning and turning. Then
someone came and removed my baby from my
back.”
The source said Gloria was very happy to see her
baby alive.
“I’m feeling better. Many have died; but I am alive.
I give glory to God, for saving me and my little
baby,” she told the hospital workers.
While Gloria could afford to smile on sighting her
baby, Mrs. Hilda Shaka, an employee of the Bank of
Agriculture, fainted outside the hospital on learning
of the death of her ex-colleague, Jonathan John.
When efforts by her colleagues who were also in
the hospital to make her regain consciousness
failed, she was rushed to another hospital where
she was admitted.
A member of staff of BOA said, “Two of our
colleagues were involved in yesterday (Monday)
explosion and their cases were severe. Some of
us are here hoping that they will recover, but after
a series of medical attention on John, he still
couldn’t make it.
“When Mrs. Shaka heard of John’s death, she
fainted. We thought it was a joke, but after
spending so much time trying to revive her without
success, we decided to rush her to another
hospital. But we thank God that she is recovering.”
A relation of another victim, Mr. Hamza Umar, told
one of our correspondents at the same Wuse
hospital that his brother, Isa Nuhu, was among
those burnt to death at the scene of the blast.
Umar said that it was too painful that after one of
his younger  brothers watched Nuhu burn to death,
they had yet to find out the mortuary where his
body was deposited.
He added, “We had been to the National Hospital
before but we are going back there now. We don’t
know what to do. My brother sells recharge cards
and repairs handsets.
“One of our brothers saw him on the ground with
his legs already burnt. There was also fire on his
body but security agents did not allow the guy to
go and stop the fire and so he died.”
A community leader in Karu Local Government
Area of Nasarawa State, Chief Waziri Yemide, said
two of his children, Audu and Babangida, were
seriously injured in the explosion.
He said, “I feel unhappy over the blast but I thank
God because none of them is dead. The only one
that is in the hospital has wounds on his legs.”
A survivor, Oguike Charles, told one of our
correspondents at the Asokoro General Hospital,
that he had been lucky to escape death in Abuja.
“This is the second time I have found myself
lucky. I narrowly escaped the Nigerian Immigration
Service recruitment tragedy in Abuja last month,”
Charles added.

Stand fast in the Lord

Philippians  4:1 Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.
4:2 I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord.
4:3 And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life.

Google buys drone heavyweight Titan Aerospace

Google has bought Titan Aerospace, a maker of
solar-powered drones, saying it could help
bring Internet access to remote parts of the
world as well as solve other problems.
Financial terms have not been disclosed.
Google said on Monday that atmospheric
satellites could also be used in disaster relief
and assessing environmental damage.
Titan's atmospheric satellites, which are still in
development and not yet commercially
available, can stay in the air for as long as five
years, according to reports. Before it was
updated Monday to reflect the acquisition,
Titan's website cited a wide range of uses for
the drones, including atmospheric and weather
monitoring, disaster response and voice and
data communications.
Facebook was also in talks to buy New Mexico-
based Titan earlier this year, but it acquired
UK-based solar drone company Ascenta
instead.
Both Google and Facebook have launched
ambitious projects that aim to get everyone on
the planet online. Google's Project Loon sends
giant balloons bearing Internet-beaming
antennas into the stratosphere.

SAD: Ghanaian Bishop Dies After Fasting For 21 Days

In what s seen as a mystery, a Ghanaian
Bishop, Rt. Rev. (Dr.) Reginald Ofori-
Twumasi, slumped and died shortly after
completing a 21 Days Fasting session.
The Bishop who was 68 years old, was said
to be a very popular man of God in the
Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Gold rich
country.
He was also the Presiding Bishop of Holy
Fire International Churches, one of the most
popular churches in Ghana.
According to a source who hinted Pulse.ng
on the development, the Bishop had gone to
a ‘mountain’ to observe the fast, after telling
his church members that they should expect
great miracles at the end of the fast but a
few days after he had completed the fasting,
he was down with a mysterious ailment and
died shortly after.

Breaking the Nigerian poverty cycle through entrepreneurial revolution (1)

Nigeria is a country of absurd economic realities.
The 13th largest crude oil producer in the world and
the second largest economy in Africa earn an
estimated $2.2 million a day in oil revenue.
Yet, its GDP per capita, at just over $1,400, is
among the lowest for the continent and 54 per cent
of its 148 million people live on less than $1 per
day.
The figures are especially shocking because of the
abundance of natural resources primarily oil and
natural gas, and massive agricultural potential
based on its climate and significant rural population.
Human development data for Nigeria has remained
persistently bleak despite a considerable upturn in
the country’s economic fortunes since 2000.
The UNDP ranked the country 80th in a poverty
survey of 108 developing nations that focussed on
severe deprivation.
The agency gave Nigeria a Human Poverty Index of
37.3, placing it below more impoverished African
neighbours with far smaller economies like Rwanda
and Malawi. Significantly, the study looked not just
at income destitution, but also at secondary aspects
including education, access to health care, standard
of living and life-expectancy.
More than 67 million Nigerians are docketed as poor
according to standard definitions, while 35 per cent
of the total population live in extreme poverty.
These recent trends are especially worrying
because they parallel a significant but contradictory
improvement in performance. Before the current
global financial crisis set in, Abuja had been
successful in wielding substantial positive change
in its overall balance sheets through a process of
re-prioritisation and economic reform since 1999.
A slew of measures, including privatisation of
several steel, petrochemical, mining and port
entities helped develop the non-oil sector, bring
down inflation and boost international currency
reserves. Nigeria also successfully negotiated with
the London and Paris clubs to do away with a large
part of its foreign debt.
However, World Bank research confirms that even
during periods of relative prosperity, poverty levels
remained unabated in the broadest sense, and
actually worsened during successive positive
growth periods.
Between 1972 and 1980, for instance, the Nigerian
per capita income shot up from $1,300 to $2,900
based on rapidly escalating oil prices. A subsequent
decline in global oil revenues dragged down per
capita income, consumption and expenditure to
critical levels.
However, Nigeria neglected investment in human
development projects and continued to pump
borrowed finances into capital-intensive
enterprises.
The fallout was that the dramatic rise in national
fortunes bypassed the majority of Nigerians, as
evident from the negligible rise in per capita
consumption figures for the same period.
The differential effect on poverty levels in rural and
urban areas for the coinciding period is equally
startling. Because of a simultaneous worsening of
income distribution, rural poverty declined slightly
while the number of urban poor gained.
However, the worst-off were also the worst losers,
as the population living in extreme poverty across
Nigeria swelled up from 10 million to 14 million. The
obvious explanation behind this is that policy
makers sorely failed to share the increase in wealth
equitably.

London marathon: man dies after crossing the finish line

A 42-year-old man has died after running the
London marathon, event organisers have said.
The man collapsed after crossing the finish line
and was given medical attention, but
pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.
A statement issued by the race organisers read:
"[we] would like to express their sincere
condolences to the family and friends of the
deceased.
"We would like to emphasise that our
immediate concern is for the family of the
deceased. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies
are with them at this difficult time." The man
has not been named.
In 2012, 30-year-old Claire Squires collapsed
and died around a mile from the finish line
while running the London marathon. A coroner
later said that her death was probably the
result of her having taken a legal performance-
enhancing drug.

Lower your blood pressure without drugs

Mention the phrase “blood pressure,” and the
average adult is likely to stand still. For all
reasons, issues relating to blood pressure readily
arrest attention because it’s one aspect of
personal health matter that determines whether or
not you stay alive — and in sound health.
Physicians say the normal blood pressure is below
120/80 mmhg (millimeters of mercury). Pre-
hypertension is diagnosed between 120/80–
139/89; Stage 1 hypertension is between 140/90–
159/99; and Stage 2 hypertension is a blood
pressure above 160/100, hence the need to
monitor your blood pressure religiously once you
hit age 40.
Blood pressure and health
Experts at the America-based National Heart, Lung
and Blood Institute say about one in three adults
has high blood pressure. And, as scary as it is,
they warn that the condition usually presents with
no signs or symptoms. As such, you may be
walking around blissfully unaware that your days
are numbered because of uncontrolled high blood
pressure!
“You can have it for years without knowing it.
During this time, though, high blood pressure can
damage your heart, blood vessels, kidneys, and
other parts of your body,” the scientists enthuse.
Knowing your blood pressure numbers is
important, they advise, even when you’re feeling
fine. “If your blood pressure is normal, you can
work with your physician to keep it that way. On
the other hand, if your blood pressure is too high,
treatment may help prevent damage to your body’s
organs,” they add.
The age, sex factors
Physicians warn that blood pressure tends to rise
with age. However, they add, following a healthy
lifestyle helps some people to delay or prevent rise
in blood pressure altogether.
“People who have high blood pressure can take
steps to control it and reduce their risk for related
health problems. Key steps include following a
healthy lifestyle, having ongoing medical care, and
following your treatment plan,” General
Practitioner, Dr. Folabi Awolaye, counsels.
In terms of gender, experts say men are at risk if
their waist measurement is greater than 40 inches
(102 centimeters); while women are at risk if their
waist measurement is greater than 35 inches (89
cm).
Good life, good BP
Of course, those whose blood pressures are high
are advised to keep in constant touch with their
physicians, just as they are also always
counselled to imbibe healthy dietary habits and
lifestyle that will not only return their blood
pressure to normal, but also keep it at healthy
level.
So, what is the natural way to realise a healthy
blood pressure level? Here…
Lose weight
A Consultant Cardiologist, Dr. Peter Olumide, says
there’s no arguing the fact that unwieldy weight
poses health risk any day. He warns that the
heavier you are on the scale, the more likely is
your risk of high blood pressure; and that by losing
weight, you are doing your blood pressure a world
of good!
He also reveals that if you’ve been placed on some
blood-pressure medications, losing weight would
make the drugs more effective.
Lower your salt intake
Olumide notes that people with family history of
high blood pressure could have blood pressure
that is particularly salt sensitive. Nutritionists
corroborate this, saying since there is no way to
determine if an individual is sodium sensitive, it is
advisable for all of us to lower our sodium (salt)
intake.
A nutritionist, Mrs. Tolu Afuwape, says the problem
is with the “hidden salts” rather than with using a
salt shaker. “When you habitually eat processed or
canned foods, you unwittingly consume more than
the recommended daily salt intake, because
processed foods such as bacon, salami, cured
meat, barbecued meat, etc; or canned foods of all
categories, contain added salts that are meant to
preserve them from going bad.
“Loading yourself with such foods will ruin your
health in no time; so, avoid them like the plague
that they are,” Afuwape advises.
Take tea
Generally, tea is good for the body; but when it
comes to lowering high blood pressure over a
period of time and keeping it at healthy level,
nutritionists recommend hibiscus tea.
For instance, researchers from Tufts University
say “the phytochemicals in hibiscus are probably
responsible for the large reduction in high blood
pressure when taken as tea.”
They are of the view that many herbal teas contain
hibiscus and should therefore be adopted as
healthy drinks because they are known to reduce
blood pressure in pre- and mildly hypertensive
adults.
Again, a Professor of Preventive Medicine at the
Northwestern University Feinberg School of
Medical, Dr. Linda Van Horn, says consuming
potassium-rich fruits such as beans, baked potato,
green leafy vegetables, plain yoghurt, salmon fish,
avocados, bananas, cashews, walnuts, coconut
water, watermelon seeds, home-made orange
juice, sweet potato, fresh tomatoes, etc., will boost
your blood pressure-lowering efforts.
Go easy on booze
While the debates have continued unabated about
the pros and cons of alcohol use, Awolaye is
categorical in warning that alcohol can actually
raise blood pressure by several points. “It can also
reduce the effectiveness of high blood pressure
medications you may be using,” he notes.
His advice? “As much as possible, avoid alcohol;
the disadvantages outweigh whatever advantages
you may be told it has.”
Reduce your stress level
Increased stress can mean increased blood
pressure, at least temporarily. If you’re at risk for
high blood pressure due to being overstressed,
you’ll want to pay particular attention to lowering
your stress.
Many activities can help you stay calmer in the
face of daily life stressors. Many of the same
healthy actions that are good for your blood
pressure — like eating right and exercising — can
also be stress preventers.
In addition to exercise, other forms of relaxation
like meditation or deep breathing can also be
helpful, physicians say.

Procedures, requirements for obtaining C of O in Lagos State

Investigations have revealed that majority of home
owners in Lagos State, and in many other states of
the federation, have no Certificate of Occupancy (C
of O).
A Certificate of Occupancy is a document issued by
State governments in Nigeria to a land/property
buyer as a proof of ownership.
A parcel of land or property without an authentic C
of O or equivalent could be likened to a vehicle
without an authentic vehicle licence.
Individuals or corporations seeking to buy land in
Lagos have several options:They can buy straight
from the government in the case of government
acquired land or buy from individuals who have
bought from the government or buy from the
natives (popularly known as Omo o’nile in Lagos),

illegally selling government acquired land.
Whoever one buys from, you need to eventually

Banks, others jittery over investments in power sector

There are strong indications that banks and other
financial institutions are worried over the possibility
of not being able to recoup their investment in the
power sector.
Indications to this emerged at the just-concluded
Seventh Lagos Economic Summit, tagged Ehingbeti
2014, where some chief executives of financial
institutions expressed concern over the  revenue
profile of the power companies, especially the
recently privatized electricity distribution companies
(Discos).
Consequently, they called for an increase in the
electricity tariff and price of gas to boost the
income generating capacity of the companies.
Speaking at a session tagged, ‘Funding the power
sector – creating banking projects/companies,’  the
executives explained that increasing electricity
tariff, as well as the price of gas, will improve the
fortunes of the power companies and make it
possible for more investors to stake their funds in
the sector.
Members of the panel included Mr. Rossie Turman,
Partner, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP;
Mr. Idris Mohammed, Partner, Development
Partners International; Mrs. Sola David-Borha, Chief
Executive Officer, Stanbic Holdings, Mr. Ayo
Gbeleyi, Commissioner for Finance, Lagos State and
Mr. Akin Ogunranti, General Manager, Power and
Infrastructure, Zenith Bank Plc. Mr. Batchi Baldeh,
Senior Vice President, Power, African Finance
Corporation was the lead speaker, while Mr.
Solomon Adegbie-Quaynor, Country Manager,
International Finance Corporation, IFC, was session
chair.
David-Borha explained that the problems bedevilling
the power sector will be addressed with appropriate
pricing and tariffs. She noted that the distribution
companies’ ability to pay back their indebtedness
will improve as their ability to generate more cash
improves.
She maintained that pricing is key in the power
sector as it will help ensure that the numbers add
up. She added that if the pricing issue is addressed,
everything else will fall in place.
“If we really want more investors to come and
invest in the power sector, it is necessary that they
should be given the right incentives and
opportunities. We have to encourage investors by
putting more money on the table; by ensuring the
right tariffs are in place,” she said.
Also speaking, Ogunranti called for an increase in
the tariffs, noting that a number of investors are
waiting on the sidelines and will not hesitate to
come in and invest in the sector once the pricing
issue is tackled.
He said, “Increasing the tariff will encourage more
investors to put in more money. If we did do not get
the tariff issue right, we will not see the rapid
improvement we desire in the power sector.
Adegbie-Quaynor pointed to the fact that what the
masses are paying via the use generators is very
high.
He said the fact is that the masses are paying life
cycle power costs of US$0.40 (N64) to $0.50 (N80)
per kilo watt hour, with small petrol or diesel
generators.
He said that this makes it critical for private
investors, regulators and the government to come
together and discuss key issues that can make the
power reforms successful so that the ordinary man
and woman do not have to pay such large amounts
for power.
The key issues, he noted, include reliability and
availability of gas, which will require investment in
gas supply and a pipeline network; strengthening
and expansion of the power transmission network;
investment in the power discos to reduce the
Aggregate Technical, Commercial and Collection
(ATC&C) losses, that may be as high as 60 per cent
in some discos; and rehabilitate and expand the
generation companies (Gencos) and the
Independent Power Projects (IPPs)”.
He noted that resolution of these key issues
requires significant investment, management and
technical skills, adding that government, regulators
and the private sector need to come together and
reach a solution that will lead to the necessary
investments, and at the same time not be adversely
impactful on the common man or woman.
Continuing, he said, “The World Bank’s position is
that government, regulators and the private sector
owners of power assets should come together,
deliberate, and find a fair and balanced solution so
that Nigeria has reliable and affordable power to
fuel inclusive growth and economic development.
“IFC, World Bank and Multilateral Investment
Guarantee Agency (MIGA) are committed to
supporting government, regulators and the private
sector in making the power reforms successful
through the World Bank Group’s Energy Business
Plan which aims to support financing and risk
mitigation for the addition of at least 1,500MW of
additional generating capacity in the next 12 to 18
months.
We would also, “Support capital expenditure
financing in two to four distribution companies;
support development, investment and financing of
Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) in both power
transmission and gas pipeline networks; support
development and financing of affordable renewable
energy solutions through solar lanterns and cook
stoves, amongst other products, to the common
man and woman, and also off-grid solar solutions to
Small and Medium Scale Enterprises and critical
centres like hospitals and schools using
photovoltaic technology.
However, in a separate session at the summit,
Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC represented by its
General Secretary, Mr. Issa Aremu, warned that
until the problems in the sector are resolved, any
attempt to bring about increase in electricity tariffs
will be seen as criminal and will be sternly resisted.
He said that tariffs should be commensurate with
service delivery. “It is stealing if you increase
tariffs without improved service”, he said.
He said Nigerians are actually looking for improved
service delivery as regards power supply and will
actually like to see what they are paying for before
tariff increase is considered.
He noted that the nature of the power sector
reforms and how they are carried out are critical,
and also wondered why the reform process is being
rushed, especially when the operators are of the
view that a lot still have to be put in place to drive
the process.
In other panel sessions at the three-day summit,
the issue of revamping the power sector in the
country took the centre stage, while improving
electricity supply to Lagos was also given adequate
attention.
For instance, Mr. Charles Momoh, Chairman, West
Power and Gas, owner of the Eko Distribution
Company, emphasized the need to revamp the
country’s power infrastructure, saying that the
country is still using power infrastructure in
operation since 1896.
He blamed the epileptic power situation across the
country on the non-availability of gas and the
reduction of power supply to the distribution
companies.
Specifically, he said that the total gas available for
Lagos State, cannot power more than 500 mega
watts of electricity, adding  that the company  is
currently receiving less than 200 mega watts, down
from the 400 mega watts promised when it took
over the assets.
Momoh further blamed the Transmission Company
of Nigeria, TCN, for the “blinking” power situation,
saying, “The TCN introduced frequency relays to
protect their equipment, which is at the expense of
consumers’ appliances, because this relay is
responsible for the two minutes on and off power
situation in Lagos.”
He noted that Eko Distribution Company currently
have the capacity to deliver 700 mega watts of
electricity, but it is currently receiving only about
240 mega watts.
He however noted that Eko Distribution Company
has commenced the process of increasing power
supply by about 500 mega watts, adding that it is
talking to 45 companies interested in embedded
generation and two other companies for captive
power.
On his own part, Mr. Sola Adeshina, Managing
Director, Sahara Power, owner of the Ikeja
Distribution Company, also noted that unavailability
of gas and a non-cost reflective tariff structure is
hampering the effective delivery of power to
consumers.
In addition, Mrs. Funke Osibodu, Chief Executive
Officer, Benin Electricity Distribution Company, said
that operators are aware that Nigerians are fed up
with the power situation and want a change.
She however noted that what is lacking is the fact
that a vast majority of Nigerians do not have the
information that the change that is expected will
require more from every one.
According to her, fixing the problems in the power
sector is a long haul and it will take a long time for
operators to achieve their goals.
“Nigerians should be aware that infrastructure is not
power. The government and some politicians will
donate transformers to a community and they will
think their power problems are over.
“We should know that transformer is not power.
Power has to be generated first before the
transformer and other equipment can distribute.”
In his own view, Mr. Anil Sardana, Managing
Director, Tata Power, who spoke via live webcast
from India, said the reforms in the Nigerian power
sector will not succeed unless there is direct
support and oversight from the government.
He noted that financial prudence in the transition
process is key, adding that emphasis should be
placed on the change management process, as well
as in the valuation of the business.
He said customer satisfaction should be the key
goal for the reforms process, adding that the
reforms should also focus on working to reduce the
cost of distribution.

Pastor Caught For Having Séx With Two Sisters In Lagos

A 49-year-old pastor, Friday Arthur, has
been charged before an Igbosere
Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for the alleged
defiling of two under-aged sisters aged 10
and 11 in Lagos.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Victor Eruada, told the
court that Arthur committed the offence
between March 28 and April 6 at the Ikota
Housing Estate area of Lekki, Lagos.
Sgt. Eruada said the pastor had, at various
times, lured the girls into his room and
defiled them…
He said that the offence violated Section 137
of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2011. Section
137 prescribes life imprisonment for anyone
convicted of the offence of defiling a child.
Arthur, who resides at No. 856, Ikota
Housing Estate, Lekki, Lagos, is facing a
charge of defilement.
The two sisters and their female guardian
were in court.
Surprisingly, when the charges were read to
him, Pastor Arthur pleaded not guilty. The
Magistrate, Mrs Linda Balogun, granted the
pastor N500,000 bail with two sureties and
adjourned the case till May 27.

Pastor Adeboye Speaks About Facebook Marriages [A Must Read For All Facebook Users]

The General Overseer of the Redeemed
Christian Church of God Pastor Enoch
Adeboye believes that choosing partners in
social media results in unstable marriages.
Speaking at the wedding of President
Goodluck Jonathan’s foster daughter Faith
on Saturday, the renowned cleric said:
“If you marry the modern way like on
Facebook, you may likely divorce the
modern way. Marry traditionally and
involve God.”
Moreover, according to him, a husband bears
full responsibility for the success or failure of
the marriage, because a man is the head of
the family.
Adeboye advised the groom not to criticize
his wife but correct her in love and also
advised both mother-in-laws to let the
newly-made couple handle their family life
issues by themselves.

Peace be unto you all

Philippians  4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
4:9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

Christians in Abuja join other faithful to celebrate Palm Sunday

Christians in Abuja on Sunday joined other faithful
around the world to mark the feast of “Passion
Sunday’’, also known as “Palm Sunday’’ with a call
on Nigerians to embrace peace.
The News Agency of Nigeria (reports) reports that
unlike in the past, some of the processions in this
year were held around Church premises to enhance
the safety of worshippers.
Palm Sunday or Passion Sunday, according to the
teachings of the Church, marks the beginning of the
Holy Week, the climax of the Lenten season.
It is a commemoration of the triumphant entry of
Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, in preparation for his
suffering and death on the cross.
The event is marked by processions by both the
clergy and the congregation, seen carrying palm
fronts amid praises and songs.
NAN reports that special Church services were held
with faithful participating in the traditional
procession, carrying palm fronts and chanting
hymns, to mark the day.
At St. Peter-Clavers Chaplaincy, University of Abuja
Staff Quarters, Giri, the faithful were seen in
processions before moving to the Church hall for
service.
In his sermon on the occasion, the officiating priest,
Rev. Fr. Augustus Essien, advised Christians to
imbibe humility, selflessness, peace and love for
neighbour, as exhibited by Jesus Christ in his
passion and death.
He said Jesus Christ’s passion and death on the
cross was a perfect example of God’s love for man
in spite of man’s stubbornness and disobedience to
his commandments.
He urged Christians to always be guided by peace,
“which is the true lesson of Jesus passion and
death on the cross’’ noting that Nigeria was in dire
need of peace.
At the St. Charles Lwanga Parish Apo, Abuja,
Christians moved a few metres around the Church
premises and back into the Church hall for the
service.
In his sermon, the Assistant Parish Priest, Rev. Fr.
Emmanuel Onuma, urged Christians especially
those in positions of authority to be selfless in their
service to the nation.
He said that the message of `Passion Sunday’’ was
sacrifice, selflessness and endurance, which Christ
exhibited for the redemption of mankind.
“God has called you to be an instrument of liberation
for the needy, step out of your comfort zone and
save others.
“I know it is not an easy task, but if you are
determined to do it, God will give you the grace and
strength to accomplish it,” he said.
At Christ the King Catholic Parish, Kubwa, Abuja, the
situation was the same as faithful were seen
gathered at the entrance of the Church with
traditional attire to mark the event.
The officiating priest, Rev. Fr. Daniel Bot, told
Christians to reflect on the teachings of Easter,
particularly the lessons of Christ’s passion.
Reading from the Gospel of Matthew 21, Bot said
that Christ taught his followers to exhibit humility in
all their endeavours.
He said that Jesus Christ as King of the Jews chose
to ride on a donkey rather than a horse like his
contemporaries did during His time.
“The entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem on a donkey
symbolised his humility and simplicity as a King,
and this is what all Christians are urged to exhibit in
their various callings,” he said.
He said that though it was often difficult for one,
especially those in high places, to sacrifice their
comfort for others, such service was necessary for
the work of salvation to be completed.
Bot said that Easter was very important in the lives
of Christians, noting that without Christ’s submission
to the will of God, the plan of man’s salvation would
have been incomplete.
At the St Matthews Anglican Church, Gwarimpa, the
Vicar, Canon Ephraim Akanya, in his sermon, also
urged Christians to be sober in their reflections
during the holy week.
Akanya said that the biggest message of Passion
Sunday was that of peace adding that laying of palm
branches on the streets for Christ to ride signified
peace.
He said that in spite of the suffering that Christ went
through, he still called on his people to follow the
path of peace, righteousness and sacrifice. (NAN)

Adeboye tasks youths on hard work

General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church Of
God, (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye on Sun-day
advised youth to be diligent, hardworking, and
always exhibit the fear of God in order to succeed in
life, reports OLAYINKA LATONA.
Adeboye made the charge at a special thank-
sgiving/prayer service organized for students by
the national headquarters of the church, Throne of
Grace, Ebute Metta. According to him, there are
several opport-unities for young people who will
dare to dream big and work hard to-ward
actualizing the dreams with Godly principles.
The man of God noted that there are many youths
who are short-changing themselves from their
God-given talents and opportunities because they
lack fore-sight, vision and goals for themselves.
He reminded the con-gregation that during his days
as a lecturer at the University of Lagos: “l had a
goal to become the youngest vice chancellor in
Africa and I worked hard at achieving it but God had
a better plan for me and I am grateful to Him”.
Using biblical Joseph as a case study, Adeboye
said: “The life of Joseph is a lesson for every one of
us as he took a decision that no matter the
condition, he would work hard and will not sin
against God as he walked up to the top of the ladder
in life”.
Continuing, Adeboe said: “I am ready to offend the
whole world as long as I will not offend God. It is
never fun to offend God. If you want to follow the
crowd, you will end up in perdition with the crown.”

Killer Child-Bride Speaks: ‘I regret killing my husband, 17 days after wedding’

Child-bride, Wasila Umar, accused of killing her
husband and three of his friends while injuring
many others after she served them poisoned food,
in Kano, says she regrets her action.
“Mine was a classical example of youthful
exuberance; it dawned on me shortly after that it
was a joke taken too far to resolve a forced
marriage question”, Wasila, 14, said. The killings
happened only 17 days after their marriage.
The suspect, in tears as she spoke to Sunday
Vanguard at Bompai police headquarters, Kano,
where she was being detained, added: “I have never
enjoyed the opportunity of going to Islamic school or
acquiring Western education. My father forced me
into this mess by stubbornly forcing me into a
relationship I was not prepared to live in “.
The girl, who hails from Yansoro- Kademi in Gaya
local government area of Kano State, revealed that
“though my target was my late husband, I must
confess that my blood went cold when I realized I
had committed mass murder”.
*Wasila
Wasila is in police custody for killing her husband,
Umar Sani, 35, and three of his friends on the spot
even as 10 others were hospitalized shortly after
eating a local meal mixed with rat poison at
Yansoro –Kademi, last week.
Narrating how she executed the mass murder, she
said, “On the fateful day, my husband’s meal was
prepared by the senior wife and put  in my room as
I was due in fulfillment of his rotational duty in a
polygamous setting.
“I obtained the rat poison for just N100 and, at my
convenience, mixed it with the local dish prepared
for him. When he returned home for the feast, he
came with those who were destined to die with him.
I was restless but could not stop it from happening.
“I felt normal and slept after the incident but the
consequence of my action was clear when I was
picked up by the police and I felt cold for the first
time”.
She explained that “destiny appears to have played
a wicked one on me at this early stage of my life
and I would rededicate the rest of my life to
sincerely seek Allah’s forgiveness”.
However, despite the overwhelming evidence the
police have to prosecute the alleged culpable
homicide, they seemed to be in a dilemma due to
age of the suspect.
Commenting on the development, Kano State Police
Command Public Relations  Officer, ASP Magaji
Musa Majia, said “the case has been referred to
appropriate authorities  for the next line of action”.
Majia told Sunday Vanguard: “I am assuring you
that Wasila would appear in court soon because we
have limitation on the number of days we can keep
a suspect no matter the perceived weakness of the
case or the personality involved”.

God hath need of you

Luke  19:30 Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither.  19:31 And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.

Boko Haram kills Scores of UTME candidates in Borno

Socres of students travelling to write the Unified
Tertiary Matriculation Examination in Borno State
have been reportedly killed by the Boko Haram
sect.
They were among several persons that lost their
lives in multiple attacks unleashed by the dreaded
sect in four communities.
The Senator representing Borno Central in the
Senate, Zannah Ahmed, on Friday, accused the
military of complicity in Thursday attack on part of
troubled Borno State where he claimed that 210
people were killed in attacks on four towns.
The towns included Dikwa, Kala Balge, Gambulga
and Gwoza.
The senator claimed that the attackers were all
dressed in military uniforms and spoke English
language.
This was a departure from the Hausa and Kanuri
language spoken by the Boko Haram insurgents.
He even lamented that authorities of the military
post in Gamboru, which purportedly received a
distressed call from the people of Kala Balge
avoided the town, claiming that it was not in its
area of command.
The senator who said he was compelled to speak
out because his people were being killed on a daily
basis, added “what happened in Borno was beyond
understanding.”
He said: “It is a must for me to speak since the
people lives are involved and they are my people.
All these are happening in my constituency and it
will be wrong to keep quiet. I feel so much pained
and would not have spoken but definitely my
conscience will not let me do that.”
He alleged that 210 people were slaughtered by
marauders, who dressed in military uniforms and
attacked the towns in two armored personnel cars
and seven double cabin pickups.
According to him, they attacked a Teachers
College in Dikwa and killed seven people, burnt
down the school library and administrative block.
He said Kala Balge was the most devastated as 60
people were killed by the armed men who went on
the rampage.
He said after they left Kala Balge they attacked
three other towns in the area where a total of 150
persons were killed.
Our correspondent made repeated efforts to call
the Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen.
Chris Olukolade, without success as the calls to
his mobile telephone line did not connect.
Our correspondent also sent a text message to the
Defence Spokesman which had not been replied as
of the time of filing the story.
A security source, however, said that the
insurgents laid ambush for a group of students who
were on their way to Biu from Maiduguri to write
Senior the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board
Examination scheduled for Saturday April, 2014.
It was learnt that the JAMB candidates were riding
in eight vehicles were they ran into the insurgents
ambush.
It was, however, not clear whether the insurgents
got the all occupants of the eight vehicles or not.
He stated however that the incident took place on
Wednesday evening.

Unemployment: Graduate attempts suicide in Akwa Ibom

Men of the Akwa Ibom police command yesterday
stopped a suicide attempt by a Mechanical
Engineering graduate of Ekiti State University who
identified himself as Sunday Omotayo.
According to eyewitness, Sunday jumped off a of a
speeding Toyota Hiace bus, expecting to be crushed
to death by oncoming vehicles on the road leading
to Ibom Plaza, Uyo.
The police said Sunday had earlier gone to the
Prison Service asking warders to either kill him or
allow him rot in jail.
An official at the prison who spoke anonymously
said, “We just saw somebody, well dressed and on
tie with no look of mentally deranged running
towards us. His action forced us to become
immediately alert with our weapons.
“The next thing he said was ‘shoot me’, ‘shoot me’,
‘I want to die’, ‘I am tired of this world.’ We were
still facing him with our weapons when he
scrambled towards us, saying we should allow him
to enter and die inside the prison.”
It was after prison officials calmed him done and
got him on a bus that from his sitting jumped off the
