The Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has
inaugurated its N170m office complex and an e-
learning Centre for Distance Learning at Moro, Ife
North Local Government campus of the institution.
This was contained in the university’s News
Bulletin made available to the News Agency of
Nigeria on Tuesday in Ile-Ife.
The report quoted the Chairman, Governing Council
of OAU, Prof. Rowland Ndoma-Egba, as urging the
authorities to facilitate the launching of a
customised tablet for e-learning at an affordable
price.
Ndoma-Egba said OAU had continued to justify its
rank as the leading university on the Webometric
ranking among the nation’s universities and
number eight in Africa.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor of the
university, Prof. Bamitale Omole, commended the
Director of the centre, Prof. Francis Asubiojo, and
other members of staff for their dedication.
He recalled the pledge of the director when
assumed office in 2012 that he would build on the
foundation laid by his predecessors.
The vice chancellor added that the director had
fulfilled that pledge and commended the contractor,
Mr Patrick Emoor, for the quick completion and
delivery of the project.
Asubiojo, on his part, said the construction of the
ultra-modern office complex and the e-learning
centre was to facilitate the aims and objective of
the CDL.
The director said the centre would develop and
establish high value and demand-driven degree
and non-degree programmes to reposition the
university within the context of growing global
learning community.
Asubiojo said that the centre would deploy ICT to
enhance teaching and research as well as
institutional administration with a view to building
mutually beneficial linkages with industries.
